Oman Holiday Calendar 2014 - Located in Southwest Asia, Oman is one of the most developed countries in entire Gulf region. Islam is the dominant religion in the country with a majority of population following Arab traditions and culture. Most of people in Oman are Abadi Muslims or people following Ibadhism. Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims are also present in descent number in Oman. Omanis live together with peace and harmony and celebrate each festival with great devotion. Islamic religion plays a major role in day to day life of Omanis. The holy month of Ramadhan is a period of fasting and prayers for the entire Muslim community. Muslims are required to fast from sunrise to sunset during this period which is followed by Eid alfitr. Ramadan is considered to be most sacred month in Islamic calendar as Muslims across the globe devote more time for worshipping Allah and reciting their Holy Quran. Eid al-fitr is one of the most famous festivals celebrated in the Sultanate of Oman. The Government of Oman announces 4 to 6 days public holidays each year on Eid alfitr for both public and private sector in the country.

All Muslim public and bank holidays are observed in Oman based on Umm al-QuraCalendar of Saudi Arabia. All the Gulf nations follow Muslim holidays based on this calendar.
